Underground Railroad Reenactment

As part of our Unit entitled "A Long Journey to Freedom", we recreated the Underground Railroad. The teachers were conductors leading escaped slaves (students) through various stations or safe areas along the "railroad". Dr. Stewman, Mr. Worthy, Mrs. Christy, and Mrs. Meeks were patrollers looking for and catching "slaves" who were loud or didn't hide. At each station, there were photos from this time period in American History that students observed and made inferences about. It was great fun, and a meaningful learning experience as well. Hope your child tells you about it!

This was how we recreated hiding in wagons.
