We carved a pumpkin....then wrote about it.....then counted the seeds.

We carved our own pumpkin, then wrote a how to story about it. Last we counted the seeds. We estimated how many there were. Our estimations were 50, 100, 150, 6,000 and 60,000. We also discussed what a reasonable estimation for the seeds would be. We eliminated 6,000 and 60,000. Last, we wrote our how to story explaining the steps we went through in our carving.

Vocabulary Parade

The Vocabulary Parade was so much fun today! The Lakeside Junior High Band played for us in the cafeteria. It was great to see everyone's creativity with their words. Here are some photos from the day.

A Bear State of Mind

What a great, interactive experience we had in September! We loved seeing and being in the play A Bear State of Mind! This post somehow did not post correctly back in September. I just now got it to work!
The kids loved the puppetry!

Some of us even got to have a part in the play!

The woodpecker !

Ask your child about the animals if Arkansas they learned about!

Field Trip to Shiloh Museum

We learned so much from our trip to the Shiloh Museum. It would be a great place for your family to visit so your child would have more time with the exhibits. They are open Monday through Saturday and admission is FREE! Look at some of the things we learned about.
Discussing the word "pioneer" with Ms. Judy
Exploring the wagon that is similar to one taken by pioneers.

Arkansas State Symbols

We studied our Arkansas state symbols including the white-tailed deer, quartz crystal, diamond, honey bee, apple blossom, pine tree, mockingbird, and "Arkansas", our state anthem. One way we demonstrated our understanding was to make tableaus on cue (show me a picture of the state tree, etc). We did a fantastic job cooperating and showing what we know!

Vocabulary Parade

Here are some ideas I found about the vocabulary parade coming up! There are lots more ideas online!

Moon Phases

We have been studying the phases of the moon. The students have learned the full moon, new moon, quarter moon, and crescent moon phases. We worked cooperatively to make these posters. The kids did a great job working together, listening to each other, checking resources, fixing mistakes, and creating a model of the moon phases. Check out their great work!
